What training do you need to become a broker?

There are many paths to the broker profession. The skills required vary according to the sector of activity.

Would you like to become an insurance broker ? You must be able to prove that you have Level I - IAS (Intermédiaires en assurances) professional qualifications.

There are several ways to obtain it:

  • Take a 150-hour training course at a credit institution, with a training organization, or with the broker himself.
  • Proof of professional experience in capitalization management in an insurance or insurance contract company. Minimum 2 years for an executive, 4 years for a non-executive.
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree, with a specialization in Finance, Banking and Insurance.

Are you interested in a career in real estate brokerage ?

You must meet the following conditions:

  • A 2-year university degree is required.
  • Training at a specialized institution such as IFIB, IFCM or ENFI.
  • If you wish to work on your own, you will need to complete 150 hours of professional training.

All categories of broker must register with ORIAS (Organisme pour le Registre des Intermédiaires en Assurance). Future brokers are required to provide proof of at least 1.5 million euros in coverage per claim, and 2 million euros per year.

Each broker must renew his registration with this organization every year. The cost of this subscription is €25.

The registration file must include the following documents:

  • Kbis extract
  • Professional liability insurance
  • A financial guarantee certificate
  • Proof of professional competence
  • Criminal record extract
