Postal domiciliation refers to the use of a domiciliation address to receive mail at a specific address and have it forwarded, wherever you are in the world. This enables an entrepreneur to have an official administrative point of contact with the authorities to house his company's head office, or an individual to receive his mail while traveling around the world.

If you'd like to know everything there is to know about direct debit, follow the guide!

What is direct debit?

Postal domiciliation is a service provided by a domiciliation company for individuals orcompanies.

For a company, this means having a reference administrative and tax address, known as the "domiciliation address". This is the address of the company's registered office. It is of the utmost importance, as it determines the company's nationality, its country of taxation, and the competent jurisdiction in the event of a dispute. With a domiciliation company, you can separate the address of your registered office from your actual place of work. Postal domiciliation gives you a prestigious address at which to receive your mail, and a host of additional services designed to lighten your daily routine.

This type of domiciliation can be used by individuals wishing to have a very prestigious address. It can also be useful for people with several residences. Expatriates, for example, can be reassured that their mail will be taken care of. Hospitalized people or those under guardianship can also benefit from social benefits.

What is the role of direct debit?

The role of a domiciliation is similar to that of a post office box: to receive mail at a given address. French legislation requires all citizens to indicate an official point of contact for receiving administrative mail. Although this can be provided by La Poste, it is possible to use the services of a domiciliation company to obtain them. This is not an individual's personal address, but simply an address for receiving mail.

What are the differences between a postal domiciliation and a domiciliation box?

A domiciliation box is not a post office box

The first and most important difference between the two is thata P.O. box can only be delivered by La Poste, whereas a domiciliation box can be provided by organizations, municipalities and, above all, private domiciliation companies.

However, domiciliation boxes meet the same needs, i.e. the possibility of receiving mail and keeping in touch with the authorities and relatives.

This is a very interesting alternative to the P.O. box in that :

  • It's not always possible to get a P.O. box. You have to live in the post office's delivery area, and not all have post office boxes available (due to lack of space or resources).
  • Post office boxes often have a bad reputation. They are often blamed for mail security problems or poor management.

In other words, direct debit is a complementary service to that of a simple P.O. box, reputed to be more reliable and more efficient, for both private individuals and businesses!
